Artist Statement
Gina’s work explores the concept of “drowning” as it relates to life, death, and rebirth by bringing the stories of female goddesses to life, ranging from the Greek legend of Persephone to Mazu, Taiwan’s goddess of the seas. Through her watercolor paintings, Gina brings their courage and resilience in the face of destiny to life through imagery that is fantastical, romantic, and brimming with kinetic energy.
Channeling her reflections on her emotions and the state of the world, Gina create paintings which engage viewers’ emotions and challenge their preconceived notions of women and femininity to create a new mythology.
